COUNT THE DAYS BY THE HOURS

» 2010 March
Cebu-neXt musings and preparations

You are cordially invited.

• • • • This week has been one long day for me and my staff. Anyone who’s joined a show [»] will know that no matter how prepared you believe you are (and have been), there will always be last-minute surprises both pleasant and otherwise. Until the show has been concluded, there’s no reason to be complacent! That’s what makes this job interesting.

An Apple a day » During our coffee break, answering text messages. Thank goodness for technology!

And oddly, I find that while I believe accomplishment is 90% planning (and have been known to be a meticulous planner), this sort of exciting stress is conducive for more out-of-the-box ideas. Should I say I thrive in it?

• • • • • This year, things are a bit different. The whole issue of “going green” in the light of manufacturing enters a kind of gray area where the procurement of materials [»] is involved, and overall it’s gotten quite nuanced in the past decade. When we decided to finally make that move—— by ‘finally’ I mean in the overall production run—— we had to consider many things.

Colours with powers » Picking precise colours from the Pantone swatch with my production head. My Pantone book has been with me for the longest time, and I bought them in New York back when I was starting out!

Most of the collections this year are a product of this project and campaign. Dubbed “Green Chemistry”, it hopes to marry the idea that what is modern need not harm the natural; in fact it helps preserve it, and, like a positive reaction, trigger more of the same. When designing for Green Chemistry, I wanted to imbue each item with a statement, an idea, which I hope will likewise spawn something ‘green’ and positive in the minds of those who appreciate furniture. More of this on the next post!

A peek at one of my table lamps for the show, which we named ‘Noah’. Made with certified green materials.

My neice Kae has been at work on the promotional end (and soon this site will likewise see a bit of a revamp in line w/ this) of things and will explain in detail possibly in my next post (I’ll try to have her guest-post!). For now, all hands back on deck! My reliable production floor staff and Gus is at the Exhibition site now, and construction is nearly complete. Tomorrow I will be looking through the booth one more time. I am quite excited, as dear friends from all over the world will be coming for a visit.

With this, let me formally invite all of you:
